Revenue for District operations is obtained through user fees for both water and sewer services. Funds for the water system operation are obtained by charges to customers for water used. Individual meters in homes and businesses record the amount of water used and customers are billed accordingly, based upon their consumption. Water rates are established and approved by the District Commission. Sewer charges are based upon water usage during the winter – when water usage should be at its lowest and the greatest percentage of water usage being discharged into the sewer system. In this way, water used for such purposes as lawn watering and gardening that is not discharged to the sewers does not become part of the sewer bill. Sewer rates are also established and approved by the District Commission.
